#3-Birthday Party at the MTC

 How's it going everyone?

This past week was very eventful! I won't be able to say everything or else none of you would probably read this.

Last Wednesday I woke up at 4AM to leave for the MTC. I was really sad to leave my family but I couldn't be sad for too long because apparently my plane ticket wasn't paid for so we had to try and figure that out. By the time we did I had to rush to the gate so I had to quickly say goodbye to my family. What was funny was that the person right in front of me in the security line was my cross country coach Tracy Harris. It was kinda cool to see him but we were only able to talk for a little bit. I rushed to my gate and met with a few other missionaries from Idaho. And then the plane was delayed an hour so I could have said a longer goodbye 😐 But it's all ok. I basically just chilled with those Idaho missionaries for the rest of the day until my district and companion got there. The elder that led my companion to my room was actually one of my friends from high school, Elder Newby so it was pretty cool to see him. I've also been able to see my other friends Elder Spear, Elder Christensen, Elder Nunnery, Elder Pritchard, and Elder Bodily. I wasn't able to get a picture with all of them but it was still cool.

My companion is really cool. He is one of the funniest people I know and we get along really well. We are also the best companionship in the district at basketball 💪

The next day was my 19th birthday. I was honestly kind of worried that it would be a very lonely birthday but it was actually really good. That morning the elders in my room sang a very monotone version of happy birthday, but it honestly meant a lot. I was sung to two more times that day. I also had the opportunity to go to the temple which was really cool. After our last class Elder Hansen in my district bought me some ice cream from the BYU creamery which was very good. Sister Hoyal in my district also bought me a sticker and a mint. I really appreciate all those who sent me birthday messages because it really made it a pretty good birthday.

The rest of the days were pretty repetitive just going to classes all day. I now really feel for Elder Christensen who has to spend two months here! I only have one more week.

My spiritual thought this week comes from the devotional we had on the first night we were here. It was a pre-recorded devotional by Elder Bednar. He was talking about the character of Christ. He said the character of Christ could be boiled down to one simple thing. The character of Christ turns outward when the natural man would want to turn inward. I invite each of you to look for opportunities this week to look outward and serve others. I promise that as you look for those opportunities, you will be able to feel more happiness in your life.

I also got to see the top of Elder Rasband's head yesterday because he had come to eat lunch with his granddaughter who is at the MTC.

I hope you all have a great rest of your week!
Elder Jensen
