#2-At-Home MTC and Kan Jam
How’s it going everyone?
This past week of at-home MTC has definitely had some really good moments. But I’m very excited to leave for the Provo MTC bright and early tomorrow morning!
My schedule each day was very similar. I would have two three-hour long classes and then usually 1-2 one hour workshops. Then I also had companion and personal study. Other than that, I didn't really have too much to do so I spent a lot of time outside playing Kan-Jam with my family. And I would like to say that I got pretty good, but my little brother Ben was still quite a bit better than me. I'm going to miss playing games like that with my family.
This week in our classes we learned a lot about how to teach simply. Even though we know a lot about each topic, we shouldn't bombard the people we are teaching with information that isn't important to our missionary purpose of inviting others to come unto Jesus Christ. We also did a lot of practicing. We often went into break-out rooms to practice with just one or two other missionaries. Once, when we were talking about prayer, we were supposed to ask the other missionary (who is pretending to not be a member) what they need help with and then to pray for them. One sister that I was paired with told me that she was really struggling because her fish broke its leg. It was super hard for me to keep a straight face while praying for her. Apparently she didn't know that we were actually saying the prayers or else she probably wouldn't have said that, but it was still really funny.
Me and my companion also had our first Helping Others experience which is where we get to practice teaching. The person we are teaching is a member, but they are very convincing actors and it really made me feel like I was in the mission field already. We taught her about how God is our loving Heavenly Father and we can communicate to Him through prayer. Overall the lesson went pretty well. Obviously there are things we need to work on, but it went pretty well for our first time.
A quick spiritual thought comes from Ether chapter 3 when the Lord asked the brother of Jared to come up with the way to light the barges. Sometimes when we are making decisions, the Lord asks us to take the first step. And once we take that first step in faith, He will guide us to where we need to be and what we need to do.
I hope you all have a great week!
