#5-Viva Las Vegas

 What's up everyone!?

This past week has definitely been crazy! There's been a lot that was good and a lot that was hard, but I guess that's missionary work for you.

If you didn't hear last week, my first companion is Elder Judd who I went to high school with. It's been really fun to talk about home with him. He thinks it's really crazy that when he tells his stories I actually know who he's talking about πŸ˜‚ My first area is in the Meadows stake which is northwest Las Vegas. We cover two wards in that stake.

If you guys have never been to Las Vegas and you want to know what it's like, just imagine Idaho, but like 10-15 degrees hotter and where you see grass, instead picture rocks and dirt. Other than that it's not too different from what I know. But the drivers are a lot crazier which has made for some fun car rides. But I guess I have seen a bit of grass because one area is a little more wealthy so they can afford to care for grass. Also most of the neighborhoods we cover are gated communities so it's sometimes hard to get in and find people to talk to.

On Thursday we taught an English class. I thought I would probably just be sitting there the whole time because I'm not great at Spanish, but there was one person in the class who didn't speak Spanish. Instead he spoke Haitian Creole so he didn't understand anything Elder Judd was saying. I said a prayer asking how I could help him so I sat by him the whole time and used google translate to teach him English from haitian. At the end I was able to testify to him of the love Jesus Christ has for him. He had a huge smile on his face the whole time because he had been to English class before but this was the first time he actually understood.

On Saturday we put our friend Vivian on date for baptism πŸ₯³ She's super awesome and has a great knowledge and testimony of the gospel. She does have a coffee addiction, but we promised her that if she has the desire, Jesus Christ would help her overcome it. She promised that she would try her hardest which is amazing πŸ‘

I was also asked to speak on my very first Sunday in the field. It was actually pretty cool and I was able to introduce myself to the ward and they all seem really cool. And we also just got a text asking if we would speak in the other ward next week πŸ€£

Now this week was also pretty hard. Elder Judd was a little sick this week so we weren't really able to work as hard as we wanted to a couple of days. But when he does feel well, he is a very hard worker which is amazing, but also sometimes hard to keep up. But I'm so glad that he's teaching me the importance of giving everything we have to Jesus Christ and then He will do what we can't.

And by the way, my mission does not use Facebook so sorry to all of the people I have poking streaks with, I won't be able to continue them πŸ˜’

My spiritual thought this week comes from the talk that I gave. I talked about receiving revelation. We can each gain our own personal knowledge that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and that He speaks to us through the prophets. I invite all of you to read a talk that President Nelson gave since he's been prophet and then to ask God if those words are true and if President Nelson is God's prophet on the Earth today and I promise that you will receive an answer. It might come in words, but it will most likely come from a good feeling. I promise that an answer will come.

Have a great week!
Elder Jensen
